Definition:
Chiropractic is a health profession concerned
with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention
of disorders of the musculoskeletal system
caused by vertebral subluxation, and the effects
of vertebral subluxation on the nervous system
and general health. There is emphasis on manual
treatments, specifically spinal adjustments.
Subluxation:
A condition when a vertebra (spinal
bone) is out of its normal position creating
pressure and irritation on a spinal nerve root.
Spinal nerve roots exit the spine between each
vertebrae, or spinal bones. Compression or “pinching” of
a spinal nerve root leads to irritation and
pain. More importantly, pressure on spinal
nerve roots causes disruption
of vital nerve impulses from the brain to the
rest of the body. Simply put,

subluxation
is a vertebra out of place pinching a nerve.
The
nerve system controls and coordinates every
function of the body. All systems in the body
rely on impulses from the brain to function
properly. Any disruption or interference of
nerve impulses from the brain due to subluxation
can significantly reduce the ability of the
body to function at its optimum. Doctors of
Chiropractic are the only healthcare professionals
trained to locate and correct subluxations.
The World Health Organization defines health
as a “state of complete physical, mental,
and social well-being and not merely the absence
of disease or infirmity.” Chiropractic
doctors consider health to be more than just
being symptom-free. Health is a properly functioning
body. So, the key to health is not good luck,
fad diets or being free of pain. The key to
health is function and function is directed
by the nerve system. Subluxation directly interferes
with your body’s ability to function
thus creating a state of ill health.
