Is
chiropractic dangerous?
No. Fewer than two spinal adjustments
per million causes serious side effects such
as stroke or paralysis. Commonly used over-the-counter
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),
such as ibuprofen and aspirin, cause serious
gastrointestinal perforation or bleeding that
leads to hospitalization in 1000 per million
patients. Mortality rates are estimated at 1
in every 3-4 million chiropractic treatments.
Compare this to 6,900 deaths per million for
cervical spine surgery. In the U.S. alone, more
than 100,000 people die each year due to adverse
reactions to prescription medications. That makes
prescription drugs the third-leading cause of
death in our country. In summary, there are cases
of serious injury following neck adjustments
but the risk is very small and remote compared
with medical and surgical procedures given for
the same health problems.

Once
I get adjusted will I always need to be adjusted?
No. You do not become dependant or addicted to
a chiropractic adjustment. However, when your
body is allowed to function properly because
of the adjustment, often times you will feel
when it is not, prompting you to get checked
for subluxation. This is similar to your body
telling you when you need food or water or air.
Will I feel instant relief?
Not always. As every person is unique, so is their healing time. Typically, the
longer the problem has been there, and the older the person is, the longer
it takes for the body to heal. There are times when significant relief is felt
right away, but it is usually short-lived. Proper healing takes time. In contrast,
children respond the fastest to an adjustment since they have not had all the
years of trauma and degeneration many adults have had.
