Most people do not realize that 90% of upper respiratory infections such as bronchitis, laryngitis, and sinusitis are viral as opposed to bacterial. Traditional medical treatment for these and similar ailments is antibiotics, which should only be used to fight bacterial infections such as strep throat.  The only cure for a viral infection is our body's immune system.  Antibiotics are beneficial at times but can also be extremely harmful, especially if taken unnecessarily.  Not only will antibiotics decimate the good bacteria found in our digestive system, they can cause our bodies to develop a resistance to the medicine and create drug-resistant strains of bacteria.  Antibiotics should always be taken with caution and only if a bacterial infection exists.  Foods like yogurt can help replenish the friendly bacteria our digestive system needs.
